Matthew Dayton talks about his Medicare

Matthew Dayton, 75, of Weymouth Township, has worked as a welder for most of his life. He is on Medicare, but sometimes struggles to pay for his medications. He keeps working as a welder because it helps shoulder the costs. Medicare was created as a safety net program to take care of older Americans' health care needs. While it has achieved a lot, it is an imperfect system and faces possible changes at the federal level. More people will be eligible for Medicare in the coming years, and those on it now explain the flaws that hurt seniors the most. July 18, 2018 (Craig Matthews / Staff Photographer)
